Homemade Playdough with Essential Oils

Looking for a fun activity to do with your toddler or child? Making homemade playdough is a lot of fun for all ages even my teenagers enjoy making it. The playdough keeps well in a jar or a ziplock bag for a long time. Mixing essential oils with your playdough makes this a fun and relaxing activity for you and your children. Enjoy this fun recipe.

Ingredients 

  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Cap flour
  • 1/4 cup salt
  • 2 tbsp cream of tarter
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Food coloring ( optional but fun)
  • Essential oils of your choice

Instructions

  1. Mix water, flour, salt, cream of tarter, and oil in a medium sized pot until well blended.
  2. While stirring continuously, cook over medium – low hear until it forms a thick dough that is no longer sticky ( approx. 5 minutes)
  3. Remove dough from pan and place on waxed paper to cool for about 5 minutes 
  4. Divide into four equal pieces 
  5. Make a well in the middle fo each piece and add approximately 10 drops of food coloring and knead until the color is well blended into the dough
  6. Make a well in the middle and add approximately 8-10 drops of essential oil of choice and knead again for about 60 seconds. If you find the scent of the dough is not strong enough, add a few more drops. 
  7. Store each piece of dough in a 4oz jar or ziplock bag or any air tight container
